It’s not the people we haven’t seen for a while, whom we long to rejoin; it’s ourselves as when we used to spend most of the time with them. That’s why we miss some and avoid others. It’s not about them as much as it’s about how we felt in their presence.

It goes the same way with the traveled places, the homes, and the worlds in the books. While happiness asks for repeating, bad feelings impose complete detachment.
